About

We’re a group of friendly people who practice Tai Chi in the City of Syracuse (NY).  Tai Chi Revolution has been around for more than 11 years and our studio is located at 2817 James Street (at the corner of James and North Edwards Ave). The studio is around the corner on the Edwards side of the building (our sign is in the window). Our experienced instructors provide consistent knowledgeable teaching across classes and provide support, encouragement, and individual form modifications as needed to accommodate individual abilities. Studies show that consistent practice helps improve posture, coordination, and flexibility while reducing anxiety and supporting cardiovascular health. While most classes are held in our studio, during the summer, some classes are held at Barry Park when the weather allows. The sounds of the park, variety of birds flying overhead, deer wandering through the park, the ever changing clouds, and fresh air all provide a relaxing and meditative mood to accompany the practice of Tai Chi.  For a full schedule of locations and times please see our calendar.  All are welcome!

FAQ:

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a type of martial art famous for its health benefits. The martial art has evolved over the years into an effective means of alleviating stress and anxiety and increasing flexibility and stability in movement. It is considered to be a form of ‘meditation in motion’ which can promote serenity and a sense of inner calmness.  Doctors and wellness experts recommend a routine practice of Tai Chi for overall well-being. Studies show that consistent practice helps improve posture, coordination, and flexibility while reducing anxiety and supporting cardiovascular health.  Regular Tai Chi practice is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, especially beginners seeking a mindful, low-stress, low impact, approach to fitness.

Where do you practice?

Our studio is located at 2817 James Street (Syracuse, NY), on the corner of James and North Edwards Ave. The studio entrance is around the corner on North Edwards (there’s a sign in the window so you can find us) with off-street parking in front of the studio and across the street.  There is also free street parking.  During the summer months we also practice outdoors at Barry Park (depending on weather), located near Syracuse University between Broad Street and Meadowbrook Drive.

What kind of clothes should I wear?

Clothing should be comfortable and something that you can easily move through a range of motion in. Shoes should encompass the entire foot (e.g., sneakers, low hiking shoes, “five-toe” shoes, or similar types of shoes). Sandals without a heel strap, crocs, boots that restrict heel movement/flexibility, or barefeet are not allowed.

How many people are in a typical class?

Usually it ranges from 6 to 15 people; more or less depending on day and time.

Can I get a list of the 108 moves?

The list of 108 moves can be downloaded 108 Moves.  It is a PDF document that you can save to your computer or print out on a regular 8.5×11 inch sheet of paper.

Does it cost anything to practice with you?

You are welcome to join us and “try us out” for a few practices.  If it feels like a good fit, then you can join our organization for a modest membership fee of $50 per month.  The fee allows you to attend as many classes during the month as you want (we have 4 classes per week) and helps to cover our expenses and build our organization.  Our instructors are all volunteers and do not receive any payment from your membership fee.  If you would like more information regarding the membership or the monthly fee please contact TaiChiRevolutionCNY@gmail.com.
