Jump Start 2020 with a New Tai Chi Class!

Yikes!  It’s happening!  2019 is rapidly coming to a close and a new year is almost upon us.  For me, the start of a new year brings an opportunity to refocus on my own health and well-being and bringing balance back into my life.  That’s something that I often struggle with and Tai Chi has become an integral part of helping me maintain that mind – body balance.

Here at Tai Chi Revolution we’d like to invite you to join us for a new six week class (class details below).  This “beginner’s class” is designed to give students a foundation in Tai Chi movement principles, basic concepts and techniques, and the health benefits of regular practice. This class is for people who have no prior experience with Tai Chi or who have practiced Tai Chi but have been away from it and would like to get back into it.  This class is conducted in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment where everyone is welcome.

Our practice of Tai Chi is focused on the mind/body interaction and integrating slow, intentional movements to help strengthen, relax, coordinate and integrate the physical body and mind to improve overall health.  Regular practice of Tai chi can improve balance control, fitness, and flexibility, and may offer the benefits of reducing the risk of falls.  It is safe for people of all ages, as it does not put too much stress on the muscles and joints.   We hope to see you at our studio!

Benefits of Regular Practice of Tai Chi

When I started practicing Tai Chi I wanted to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible.  I had a difficult time hearing my instructor’s advice to just immerse myself in the moment and not worry about every tiny detail.  Over time, I found that my instructor was right <LOL>.  The goal of learning the many forms in the set was not to just “learn” the set, but to use what I was learning about each form to understand how my body moved in response to my “internal” commands.   I began to realize how watching my angles, shifting my weight, and paying attention to my body’s strengths and limitations allowed me to focus my attention more on fundamentals.  That in turn has helped me to better understand and master the flow of  body movements used in Tai Chi and to find the benefits of this “moving meditation”.

If you want to learn more about the importance of consistency in the practice of Tai Chi you may find this article from SlantedFlying.com helpful.

If you are interested in learning Tai Chi or want to get back into the practice, please feel free to e-mail us at TaiChiRevolutionCNY@gmail.com.   Check back soon – we will be posting the start date for a new beginners class soon!  We look forward to seeing you in the studio!

Tai Chi Revolution’s Intensive Class

This is what you’ve been waiting for

and it’s finally here!

On SUNDAY, March 11, 2018 Tai Chi Revolution is going to host an Intensive Class for our members.  This is a FREE class for all members to attend.

The studio will open at 11:15 am and class will start at 11:30.  We will open the first hour of class with foundation and strengthening exercises then work on several Qi Gong  (“Chi Gong”) moves.  Qi Gong has been used for thousands of years in China to build energy, improve and maintain health and cultivate peace of mind.  These moves are designed for the beginner and fit in well with our Tai Chi practice.  After Qi Gong we will break for a pot luck lunch (a selection of snacks, quiche, soup, fruit salad, and desserts will be available).  After lunch we will practice our Tai Chi. Class will end at 2:00 pm.

This is an opportunity for all students to share a class and the fun of a potluck. We  encourage all the beginner students to come and see what Qi Gong is and to practice a part of the set that you may not be familiar with.
Please feel welcome to come to part or all of the intensive! We look forward to seeing everyone.

Tai Chi Walking

This post was originally posted by D.C. Kapilla on Tai Chi Revolution’s Facebook page.

Do you ever wonder what a tai chi class has to offer to you? When I first started practicing tai chi about eighteen years ago, I had no idea what I was getting into.Coordinating moving my left foot with my right arm or learning to step into my entire foot were foreign concepts. I had to allow myself to accept that proper tai chi form takes times to learn. Being part of group of practitioners who are all moving in the same direction with the same cadence is very powerful! The synergy of the group is palpable and it sets a positive tone for the day. Tai chi is a lifetime practice because it allows me to refine my form as my body continually heals, stretches, strengthens and realigns.

This short clip (https://www.facebook.com/956743971024176/videos/vb.956743971024176/1198918220140082/?type=2&theater) is an example of tai chi walking, a simple exercise that anyone may do. Ellen recently incorporated tai chi walking into our tai chi practice, and the improvement in our form was amazing! This simple movement helps to strengthen your legs and ankles, improves your balance and your ability to be present in the moment. You can find a good video that can help you start your own practice of tai chi walking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYrUqlwE6n8.

If you are interested in Tai Chi for its health benefits, to be around a group of people with a positive happy vibe, or just because it sounds like a cool thing to do… please check out Tai Chi Revolution’s calendar of class dates, times, and locations and drop in. Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level.

A couple of reasons to practice tai chi…

REDUCE STRESS. This is probably the number one reason that I practice tai chi. The proven link to stress and the exacerabation of illness is motivation for me to continue with my own practice of tai ch. Another reason is BETTER BONE DENISTY. We are an aging population like it or not. Increasing bone density increases my chances of remaining active and healthy. Tai chi helps promote better balance, increases stamina and flexibility. And one of the best reasons to practice tai chi is that it does not take a lot of time. You can do a full set, all 108 moves in about 15 minutes.
