Tai Chi Revolution’s Intensive Class

This is what you’ve been waiting for

and it’s finally here!

On SUNDAY, March 11, 2018 Tai Chi Revolution is going to host an Intensive Class for our members.  This is a FREE class for all members to attend.

The studio will open at 11:15 am and class will start at 11:30.  We will open the first hour of class with foundation and strengthening exercises then work on several Qi Gong  (“Chi Gong”) moves.  Qi Gong has been used for thousands of years in China to build energy, improve and maintain health and cultivate peace of mind.  These moves are designed for the beginner and fit in well with our Tai Chi practice.  After Qi Gong we will break for a pot luck lunch (a selection of snacks, quiche, soup, fruit salad, and desserts will be available).  After lunch we will practice our Tai Chi. Class will end at 2:00 pm.

This is an opportunity for all students to share a class and the fun of a potluck. We  encourage all the beginner students to come and see what Qi Gong is and to practice a part of the set that you may not be familiar with.
Please feel welcome to come to part or all of the intensive! We look forward to seeing everyone.

You Can Experience the Benefits of Tai Chi!

Tai Chi Revolution is a Syracuse, NY-based Tai Chi studio where practitioners of all levels have experienced first hand the benefits of practicing Tia Chi.  An recent article in Your Health Magazine reminds us that Tai Chi is more than just an exercise in moving meditation.  There are proven health benefits as Kym Huie, a tai chi instructor for more than 30 years, points out:

“It improves people’s balance,” Kym said. “Besides the physical balance issues, it can help with bone density issues, because we’re weight-bearing in tai chi. Tai chi also helps with deep breathing, and studies have shown that tai chi helps with fighting off dementia and strengthening cognition or the ability to think. Tai chi is very much a memory exercise, and it can help with anxiety, stress and depression.”

“…When you do tai chi long enough, in 15 to 20 minutes you can start to get a little chemical release of endorphins, the feel-good chemicals from exercise. And though we may never get rid of all of our pain if we have arthritis or a bad knee or hip, we can reduce our pain levels by deep breathing and getting this endorphin release, and it helps manage our pain.

We encourage you consider starting your own journey with Tai Chi.  It’s simple to start – just check out our calendar for dates, times, and practice locations.  We routinely hold a 6 week beginners class and on-going practice classes several times a week.  If you, a family member, or a friend has ever wondered what Tia Chi looks like, what it might be like to join a class, or want to pick up practicing again then stop by and check our group out.  No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome regardless of your experience levels.

If you would like more information, please send us an e-mail and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have.  You can also learn more about us by visiting and following our Facebook page.

Tai Chi Really IS Good For You!

The science is in (again!) on the health benefits of practicing Tai Chi.  From the Harvard Gazette (April 25, 2017):

“… scientists also value it [Tai Chi] for its fundamental, physical benefits.  In addition to improving balance, flexibility, and mental agility, it also reduces falls, the largest preventable cause of death and injury among older adults.”

If you live in the Syracuse, NY area, and you’ve been interested in learning more about Tai Chi or would like to try it out, please contact us at TaiChiRevolutionCNY@gmail.com and we’d be happy to talk to you.

No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome!

Break it up, just break it up….

In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that Mahatma, my eleven year old chocolate Lab is with out a doubt hands down my favorite exercise partner…she makes me laugh and inspires me to keep moving even when I don’t feel like doing much of anything. In this harried hectic world that we live in, carving out an hour to exercise may be a challenge. Or maybe your someone who is recovering from an injury or you are just starting an exercise program and thirty minutes of continuous activity is intimidating. If your someone who does not have the endurance to participate for the recommended thirty minutes five a times a week, try dividing the thirty minutes into two intervals of fifteen minutes or three intervals of ten minutes. Walk for ten minutes at a time, get on an exercise bike or an elliptical machine for 10 to 15 minutes and then take a break to catch your breath. Studies are showing that breaking up the thirty minute time period into manageable chunks offers multiple benefits including burning more fat, reducing blood pressure after each ten to fifteen minute exercise session and reducing spikes in blood pressure. Exercise is very important for anyone with diabetes, it is nature’s way of helping to control blood sugar levels. Endurance levels have also been shown to improve whether exercising for 10 minutes three times a day or once a day for 30 minutes. Perhaps an even more important benefit is that your likely to stick with it because it is easy to manage and fit into your schedule. Find something that you can do a couple of times a day to get up off the couch or away from your work desk and just move to feel better! Need a few ideas or activities? This is an excellent book to help get you get started and it is FREE. And don’t let the name fool you, EVERYONE needs exercise! https://eldergym.com/ebook.html
